A REVOLUTIONARY CROP MANAGEMENT TOOL
•EMP is an advanced pest barrier that goes to work on contact to stop disease and suppress pests and other insects. •The barrier mimics the plant’s immune system design to prevent the entry/growth of pathogens. •The active ingredient is based on cinnamon oil encapsulated with a polymer, and inert drying oil. •The innovative formulation provides high levels of protection with low applications rates and a high degree of crop safety.
•EMP protects against many fungal pathogens such as powdery mildews, Botrytis, rusts and other diseases. •EMP Barrier has little to no effect on beneficial predator populations, allowing effective control without disruption of an IPM program.
A NOVEL APPROACH
•The EMP Barrier product (patent pending) belongs to a suite of polymers which are designed for all crops. Other polymer projects include post-harvest food protection, root aphid deterrent, antidesiccant for root stock cold storage, graft protectant for hardwood nurseries operations, and others. •This SMART polymer is not a traditional pesticide but a nontoxic substance that acts as a spreader/sticker. •This category of polymers includes high performance chemistries that respond to stimuli and are capable of changing with their environment to form a protective barrier over the plant surface for a designated period of time. •EMP Barrier forms an impermeable barrier to microbiological and arthropodal penetration but still allows for leaf respiration and nutrient absorption.

UNIVERSITY TESTED AND FIELD DEMONSTRATED
a dECADE OF SCIENTIFIC SUCCESS
•EMP Barrier was developed and created by the team at GEMM AG Sciences, with the SMART polymer technology approved by the National Organic Program (NOP) and certified by the Organic Material Review Institute (OMRI).
•The product was invented by Ralph Emerson and was lab and field tested in collaboration with Walter “Doug” Gubler, PhD, Professor Emeritus, Plant Pathology, University of California, Davis.
•It’s original purpose was an organic treatment for grapes that protected the integrity of the fruit and plant health against fungal pathogens of economic concern.
•GEMM Ag began field trial evaluations in Lodi 2015, trialing the original formulations in Gubler’s annual university field trials.
•EMP Barrier entered the commercial agricultural market in 2018, with continued success in the commercial growing operations in wine and table grapes.
•EMP can be used as a stand-alone protectant against Powdery/Downey mildews, botrytis, and some of the wood canker pathogens. Also, EMP can be used as a tank synergist with other insecticides/conventional chemistries to help increase efficacy as a “sticker”.
•The product has undergone formal, extensive and successful testing in grapes. Active research & development is identifying new agricultural uses.
•Working with industry leading researchers and experts, the team at GEMM Ag Products has rigorously tested technologies that provide growers and farmers with the data to make confident actionable decisions.
smoke taint: ONGOING INVESTIGATION
•Currently, EMP Barrier has been included in an ongoing extensive field, lab and winemaking evaluations designed to quantify and better understand the quantitative and qualitative effects of volatile phenols, particularly regarding potential effects that may present after bottling.
In collaboration with Anita Oberholster, PhD, College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, University of California Davis, and the Smoke Taint Alliance, EMP Barrier has been shown to reduce the levels of volatile phenols in wine grapes by 30%+ in pre-harvest field applications without compromising wine quality.
USE AND APPLICATION RATES
Directions for Use: Apply EMP Barrier at any stage of plant growth as a disease preventative before or as an eradicant following fungal infection.
Dilution rates: EMP Barrier is highly concentrated, do not use undiluted. Dilute EMP Barrier into clean water as follows for all crops. Mix well before use.
•To control the growth and spread of mild to moderate mildew infections use a 1% solution: Dilute 1.3oz of EMP concentrate into 1 gallon of water (1 gallon of EMP per 100 gallons of water)
•When disease pressure is very high, such as Downy Mildew in green houses: Use a 3% solution. (3.8oz into 1 gallon; or 3 gallons EMP into 100 gallons water)
•When the polymer is tank-mixed with other agricultural products with various modes of action, EMP Barrier’s unique chemistry extends the amount of time the other products remain effective on the plants surface.
